PROMISED LAND ANIMAL RESCUE

Cat & Dog Adoption Application Guidelines and Requirements

An Overview

PLAR adoption requirements include, but are not limited to:

There is a mandatory 24-hour waiting period for all adoptions after an Applicant has met the dog/cat they wish to adopt

(Why? This allows the entire household to discuss the additional time and financial commitment involved in providing appropriate care for a companion animal, and to ensure that everyone is in agreement. This also allows PLAR to consider other applicants and find the “best match” for the cat/dog. )

All cats and dogs owned by applicant must be spayed/neutered.

(Why? Unaltered cats & dogs are responsible for producing the estimated 5.5 million homeless cats and dogs that are killed each year in animal shelters. Altered cats and dogs make better pets and live longer, healthier lives.)

PLAR will not adopt to persons who keep their pets outside, either in a pen or on a chain, on a regular 24-hour a day basis.

(Why? Cats and dogs are social creatures and need interaction with human beings. Our goal is to place our rescued animals in loving homes, not life on the end of a chain or small pen.)

Applicants must be 20 years old to adopt a dog or cat.

Applicants must complete an Adoption Application and have it reviewed by an Adoption Counselor.

If applicants rent, PLAR must confirm with their landlord that they are permitted to have pets, and if required, a pet deposit has been paid before adoption can be finalized.

Puppies (age 6 months and younger) cannot be adopted into a household where the puppy will be left alone for more than 4 hours at a time.

(Why? One: Puppies need socialization that cannot be provided by absent owners. Two: Housebreaking requires owners to be present at reasonable intervals to ensure that puppies have adequate opportunities to relieve themselves.)

Applicants with children age 8 and younger must complete at least 2 visits with the cat or dog they wish to adopt.

(Why? To safeguard the possibility that the cat/dog will become intolerant of the children, and to ensure the children’s interaction with the pet will be properly monitored. Adoption Counselors may request additional visits.)

All dogs/cats will be delivered to their new home by PLAR. At that time, Applicant will pay the processing fee of $25 for cats, $50 for dogs, which does not cover our cost, but helps us to continue helping other animals.

We conduct follow-up contacts after every adoption to address any problems you may be having and to help ensure a successful placement. We also love to hear from Adopters and their new companion animals.

If for any reason, an Adopter can no longer keep the cat or dog they have adopted, Adopters must contact PLAR to make arrangements to return/surrender the cat/dog.
