Abu is a 12-year-old POA Cross Gelding who is 10½ hands. This pony was sadly a victim of ignorance twice before he made his grueling arrival here at Promised Land. He was so badly foundered his feet spiraled in a circle. A neighbor thought he could help by taking a hacksaw and cutting from the heel to the toe, successfully cutting off one hoof completely in that manner and mutilating the second foot. As the pony bled, they all decided it was time to bring it here to us. Abu has had a hard recovery. We have had him for about 2 years. His chronic conditions consist of slight rotation in both fores along with contracted deep flexor and extensor tendons. There are times that he is in pain and needs bute. We keep his life simple and free from danger. He lies down more than most and doesn’t need to be with someone that will run him. We have taken Abu to Elementary schools to promote awareness with the rescue animals. He has done great with that. I have also let anyone from volunteers to my students groom and play with him.
